Whyte Avenue History

Strathcona was the main street of Strathcona when it became a town in 1899. Strathcona later became a city in 1907. However, after the completion of the High Level Bridge built over the North Saskatchewan River to connect Strathcona with Edmonton, the city of Strathcona amalgamated in Edmonton. As of today, Strathcona still maintains its historic roots and some of the historical buildings are along Whyte Avenue. Whyte Avenue links to 109 Street, providing transit to north and south Edmonton.
