History of Westmount
The land that is now Westmount used to be owned by Malcolm Groat, a Hudson Bay Company employee who settled in the area in 1878. Malcolm Groat later sold his land to real estate developers and by 1910, the city of Edmonton had annexed the rest of his land. Westmount became an established neighbourhood by 1910. Most of the heritage homes spread around the neighbourhood were built before 1950, while apartments, which account for more than 50% of the dwellings, were built recently. Westmount is bounded by 111 Avenue to the north, Groat Road to the west, the Groat Ravine to the southwest, and the North Saskatchewan River valley to the south. The eastern boundary of Westmount is bounded by Queen Mary Park neighbourhood to the east, and Stony Plain Road and 124 Street to the southeast.

Westmount features many sports amenities for sports enthusiasts. Westmount Park is situated at the centre of the neighbourhood and it offers amenities such as an outdoor hockey rink, baseball diamonds, soccer fields, a water-spray park, playgrounds, and a fitness centre.
