Rideau Park History
The name Rideau Park comes from Rideau Hall, the official residence in Ottawa of the Governor-General of Canada. Rideau sits on land annexed to the city of Edmonton in 1959. A huge chunk of Rideau Park's residential construction occurred during the 1970s. This accounts for just over 80%. Most of the remaining residences were constructed during the 1960s.
Apartments take up just over half (54%) of the residences, while apartment-style condominiums take up about 12%. The remaining are mostly single-family homes and a few duplexes.
Rideau Park is bounded on the north by Whitemud Drive, west by 111 Street, east by Calgary Trail and south by 40 Avenue.
