Grandview Heights History
The land that is now Grandview Heights was owned by the McCauley family in the 1880s. It was subdivided during the early 1900s. Grandview Heights was annexed to the city of Edmonton in 1913, and residential development occurred during the 1960s. The neighbourhood's development was completed by 1970. The neighbourhood is represented by Grandview Heights Community League, established in 1961. Grandview Heights is bounded by Whitemud Creek Ravine on the north and west. To the south and east its surrounded by the fields of the University of Alberta Farm. Grandview Heights is unique in that it's not bordered by any other neighbourhood.
Grandview Heights Recreational Activities
There is one park in the neighbourhood, Grandview Park. It features plenty of green space, a playground, outdoor gym and an ice rink maintained by the Grandview Heights Community League. Just outside the neighbourhood to the west, Whitemud Park South Trail is a great place to take a walk and explore what nature has to offer. Also nearby is Grandview Stairs, a great place to work out and enjoy the beautiful views of the river valley. You can find more great views, green spaces and amazing scenery in Whitemud Park situated north, across Fox Drive.
There are more trails and attractions to explore to the west, just across Whitemud Drive. Fort Edmonton Park features architecture from various periods, a fort, streetcars and much more. The nearby Fort Edmonton Footbridge also provides access to more views and beautiful trails that lead to hiking areas such as Wolf Willow Ravine and Wolf Willow Stairs. Just across the river, Edmonton Valley Zoo offers a chance to observe more than 350 animals and enjoy their programs and rides.
Golf lovers are a few minutes away from Edmonton Country Club, a private golf club with a challenging course in great shape, excellent food, and great staff. West Edmonton Mall (the biggest in North America) is only a short drive away. It's a great place to hang out with family on the weekend and explore the numerous stores, food courts, restaurants and attractions including, a waterpark, adventure golf, marine life, Galaxyland (contains a wide variety of rides), bowling and a whole lot more.
