The land that is now Brookside was annexed to the city of Edmonton in 1960. Brookside was part of Riverbend-Terwillegar Heights Outline Plan, and after a subdivision re-plot in 1968, the neighbourhood developed at a fast pace. Most of the residences were built during the 1960s and 1970s, while the rest were completed by 1980. Brookside is represented by the Riverbend Community League. The neighbourhood overlooks the North Saskatchewan River Valley to the north and is bounded by Whitemud Creek to the east and Whitemud Drive to the west and south.

Brookside Recreational Amenities

Brookside's location presents lots of recreational opportunities. Residents enjoy easy access to the river valley trail system with trails such as Whitemud Park South Trail and Rainbow Valley Park. The trails lead to the historic Fort Edmonton Park and go along the river into Wolf Willow Ravine via Fort Edmonton Footbridge. The trails are perfect for talking walks with family and biking.
