Aspen Gardens History

Aspen Gardens sits on land that was annexed to Edmonton City in 1960. Single-family residences in the neighbourhood were constructed during the 1960s and apartments during the 1970s. The neighbourhood's name comes from the Aspen tree, commonly found in the Parkland forests of west-central Alberta. The neighbourhood is bounded by 119 Street to the east, south by Fairway Drive, and north and west by Whitemud Creek Ravine.

Aspen Gardens Recreational Activities

Aspens Garden Park is the only park in the neighbourhood. It features soccer fields, a spray park, two ice rinks and a playground. Also nearby is Westbrook Playground which features a playground for kids.

The neighbourhood features pathways that facilitate running, walking and convenient bicycle travel. Some of the pathways connect with the Whitemud Creek Ravine trails, which provides a chance to enjoy spectacular views of the greenery and explore a variety of wildlife, trees and plant life. Popular spots for hiking in the ravine include Whitemud Creek Stairs #250, which features a set of stairs on a bridge that provide a nice view of the ravine and Whitemud Creek Bridge #251, which features more stairs and great views.
